DePuy Announces Opening of New Overseas Facility

DePuy Orthopedics has recently announced the opening of a new overseas research facility. Opened last week near Chennai in Mahindra World City, India, DePuy named the facility The Institute for Advanced Education and Research In Orthopaedic and Neurological Care. “The DePuy Institute will serve as a hub for education, training and research across the continuum of orthopedic and neurological care,” said Gary Fischetti, the Chairman of the Worldwide Company Group within DePuy.

The new building is fully equipped as both a research and education facility with a 100-seat auditorium, multiple classrooms, and a multi-station skills laboratory. Additionally, the Institute will employ the knowledge of experts all over the world through audio/visual technology that has been described as “state-of-the-art.”

A Variety of Programs

The initial program run at the Institute is titled “Arthroplasty Essentials” which is a course for practicing orthopedic surgeons to learn the ins-and-outs of joint surgery. The courses offered will be accredited and can be used to fulfill continuing medical education requirements of jurisdictions that require such classes be taken. Furthermore, those running the Institute hope it will be a hub, not only of knowledge, but of networking and building relationships within the industry.

The opening of the Institute is part of DePuy’s national level professional education initiative, which it launched in 2008. Through this initiative, DePuy has run 32 programs and trained upwards of 550 surgeons.
